Employee Well-being and Mental Health Initiatives

In 2024, organizations that recognized mental health as important and playing a very significant role in workforce productivity made employee well-being a number one priority. The pandemic was definitely a driver for HR teams to pay more attention to the well-being programs-ranging from mental health days to full-fledged EAPs.

For example, Microsoft has been at the forefront of giving mental health resources, incorporating wellness applications such as Headspace into its benefits. It helped them trim the rate of burnout while improving engagement and overall productivity. Such initiatives include wellness stipends by Google, which also extends mental health counselling and flexible working hours for general wellness.

Sixty-two percent say they would stay longer with a company that showed a greater focus on mental health and wellbeing," according to a recent Deloitte survey (Bartram, 2024). This increasing focus on employee wellbeing naturally extends to policy changes, such as flexible work arrangements or paid time off for mental health, some of the common best practices in organizations today.

Indeed, Salesforce has proved the seriousness of its commitment by reducing employee turnover through several wellness initiatives into work-life balance and mental health support. The most outstanding offerings are B-Well Together, a global wellness program that arms resources, including mental health apps and employee assistance programs for physical and mental resilience. This has greatly reduced employee burnout while increasing engagement.

Other than that, Salesforce nurtures the concept of Ohana in regard to a sense of belonging and connection among employees; it treats them like a family. This culture has played a very important role in maintaining high levels of engagement and further reducing turnover rates.

The company also empowers employees to connect personal goals with the mission of the company through regular goal-setting exercises called V2MOM, which stands for Vision, Values, Methods, Obstacles, and Measures, hence making them feel valued and motivated.

Key Insight: A Gallup study from 2023 indicated that companies with strong wellness programs reported a 62% increase in employee retention (Gallup, Inc., 2024). Organizations put mental health at the heart of the HR strategy to reduce absenteeism and increase job satisfaction, hence better performance .
